Building a Healthcare System That Works for Nigerians
Healthcare should not be a privilege reserved for those who can afford it. Every Nigerian—regardless of income, location or age—deserves access to quality healthcare when they need it.
A responsive healthcare system must bring affordable services closer to communities, strengthen primary healthcare centres, equip hospitals with essential medicines and modern equipment, and ensure that healthcare workers have the training, support and working conditions they need.
It must also place greater emphasis on prevention. Regular health checks, maternal and child healthcare, vaccination, health education and early diagnosis can save lives while reducing the cost of treatment.
For Nigerians in rural and underserved communities, accessibility is especially important. Healthcare should not depend on how far someone lives from a major city or whether they have enough money to pay a hospital bill.
The goal should be simple: a healthcare system that is accessible, affordable, responsive and centred on the dignity of every Nigerian.
